The
Sam Browne belt (or harness) dates from the 1700s when officers and troops
needed extra support for the heavy pistols they carried. This design
quickly became used for dress uniforms and honor guard assignments.
The "belt" consists of a duty or pistol belt (generally 2¼
in wide) with a double tongue buckle, combined with a 1¼
in wide shoulder strap. Contemporary usage has the strap attached with
a sliding D-ring (ours are double snap design by default).
The duty belt and strap are available in plain or
basketweave finishes, with either nickel or brass finished hardware;
alternatively a clarino (patent) finish is also available.
The
duty belt is 2¼ in wide with a double tongue
buckle and comes fully lined. The plain finish (shown) has three rows
of "panel" stitching (can be had without stitching).
The
belts also come in basketweave finish and in clarino (patent) finishes.
In addition to the standard black, the leather belts are also available in
the optional dark brown finish (extra cost). The
double tongue buckles, which are cast brass, are available in nickel or
brass finish (an optional black finish is also available for belts only).
In
addition to the traditional double buckle, the duty belts can be supplied in
"belt-over-belt" ranger style.

To Order:
First
measure diagonally across the shoulder from the bottom of the
belt in front to the bottom of the belt in the rear;
the point of
measurement should be just to the rear of the first belt loop on the
uniform trousers in the front and between the center and adjacent belt
loops in the rear.
Second
choose a strap length closest to the measured length,
odd lengths should be changed to to next highest even length
for example: if the length you measured is
34" you would order a size 34 shoulder strap; if it was 35", you
would order a size 36.
